Whether you’re a doctor, medical professional, PA, nurse, or you’re in medical school, one thing is true — your time is limited. In your search for a romantic relationship, you don’t have time to waste on matchmakers or dating apps that aren’t going to deliver results.
As a response to this sentiment, over the past few years we’ve seen the rise of doctor dating apps. These apps, often created by actual medical professionals, aim to solve the romantic challenges of the medical community and provide a place for you and your colleagues to find love.
But do they work?

The short answer is probably not.
If you’re looking for the consensus, doctor dating apps sound like a great idea in theory, but fail to deliver in practice. We’ll share a better recommendation for you first and then outline some reasons why these options just don’t work.
The reality is that you’re much better off with a dating option built for executives that can help do the heavy lifting for you or a dating app for professionals like Elite Singles.
Make sure to bookmark those links to check out after you finish this article. To defend our point, here are the reasons that doctor dating apps just don’t work how they’re intended.
The matching pools are far too small.
Building a viable network of singles to support a doctor dating app is not easy. The biggest challenge is getting enough people as dating apps suffer from what is known as the cold start problem. A doctor dating app needs doctors for matches, but the first person who shows up on the app sees no one and leaves. Getting through this involves a big budget and intense marketing.
Unfortunately, the doctor dating apps we found haven’t seem to be able to get over this hump. For example, ForeveRx only has a measly two ratings on the iOS app store. Not a rating of two stars, but only two people have rated the app, which means it’s probably a ghost town.

Or take the dating app for doctors called Down to Date. According to the Google Play Store, it only has between 1,000 and 5,000 total downloads in its lifetime.

Even if it was 5,000 and all 5,000 of those people were members, the math doesn’t help. If you assume a hetero userbase (solely for the math) that means 2,500 men and 2,500 women, which cuts the number of potential matches in half. Then you divide that by 50 for each state which means you only have 50 matches per state. But then you have to divide that by 4 to account for the different major age categories, and now each person only has 12 matches.
It’s very primitive and assumptive math, but it proves the point. These niche doctor dating apps are just too small, which is why we advocate heavily for using one of the options we mentioned earlier instead.
What if you want to date someone who isn’t a doctor?
The second problem with these doctor dating apps is that most of them are only for healthcare workers. The apps literally have you verify your status with your hospital badge or NPI number to gain access.

What happens if you want to date someone who works in another career field? You won’t be able to do that on these apps. While that might be a pro if you’re only interested in dating other healthcare workers, we doubt that is what most of you are looking for.
Often, the reason people join dating apps is to find people they don’t work with. These doctor dating apps don’t help with that by design.
The problem with ‘stethoscope-chasers’.
There are a few doctor dating apps that are open to the public, which on the surface sounds like a solution to the aforementioned problem. However, the problem is that this attracts what we call stethoscope-chasers (we made that term up).
According to a study posted by hiring site The Ladders, the number one most desirable profession to date is a doctor or nurse.

Great, right? It can be. However, it can also attract people who are interested in dating you for your money and your status.
When you meet someone through a non-doctor-focused dating option, you are much more likely to find someone who is attracted to what you do but isn’t obsessed with the wrong aspects of it.
These 3 doctor dating apps gave it a good try.
To close the discussion, we wanted to share a few doctor dating app options. Again, we’re not saying that these are options you should try; we’re just sharing them for completeness on the topic.
ForeveRx

Founded by Shivani and Sagar Shah, ForeveRx has a clever name and certainly has made a good attempt to grow. Shivani is a resident physician at Duke and her brother Sagar is an entrepreneur with a passion for hospitality.
Again, the idea behind ForeveRx is great, but it seems that the app didn’t make it from concept to execution, mainly for the reasons we mentioned earlier. The app did get some decent press coverage a few years ago with a mention on The Drew Barrymore Show.
That said, with only two ratings on the iOS store, it’s hard to believe that it got anywhere close to meaningful traction.
Additionally, the last update to the company’s blog and website was April of 2024, but we did see an update to the app as of November of 2024.

Down to Date

The graphics and design of Down to Date are actually pretty well done earning it our make believe award for the best designed doctor dating app. However, the problems we mentioned earlier also plague this app.
If you thought the only two reviews in the iOS store for ForeveRx was bad, Down to Date takes the cake with only one single review (and it’s one star).

The company is still actively improving the app as of December 2024, but the bigger problem is a lack of people.

Miss Doctor

We’re not going to spend long here, but Miss Doctor does appear to be a matchmaking option for single doctors. The tagline, if we’re being totally honest, does seem a little creepy to us as “Love a Lady Doc”.
Additionally, the iOS app seems to have been removed and the 1.4 star review on the Google Play store is not a great sign.
Again, we don’t believe any of these doctor dating apps are worth your time, but if there was one that especially embodied those feelings, it would be Miss Doctor.
