It’s Just Lunch publishes very little about their success rate.

While many of the top matchmakers do release some information about their success rates, It’s Just Lunch gives us very, very little. In fact, we did a site search for every single page on the company’s website and found literally zero instances of the phrase ‘success rate’.

That said, we were able to find some success data on It’s Just Lunch in court documents from the company’s $77 million class action lawsuit.

In the documents, we see an old website screenshot (from 2007) that shows the company has arranged over 2 million first dates, including 50,000 first dates every month for their 30,000 members.

What’s interesting is that nearly 20 years later, the company still advertises the same 2 million first dates on their website.

This seems pretty odd to us and lowers a lot of our faith in the quality of this data. It’s possible that they just didn’t update this on their website, but the entire website has been overhauled, so it feels like this would be a pretty big oversight.

It’s reasons like this that It’s Just Lunch is not on the top of our list of matchmakers. If you’d like to see our top pick for the best matchmaking service, we’d highly recommend checking out Three Day Rule.

It’s Just Lunch reviews show no answers on success rate.

While we’re always hesitant to use public reviews (because it’s harder to verify they’re real), we have seen some instances where people talk about asking a matchmaker for data on the It’s Just Lunch success rate.

For example, in this review from someone in Irvine, California, we see someone share the following:

“I noticed right off the bat she couldn’t answer basic questions – what’s their success rate? How many people (or men) are in your database? This is common and obvious stuff that other matchmakers have easily answered. She would just brush it off and say, oh it changes every day!”

Basically, it sounds like at least this particular matchmaker from IJL was not willing (or able) to share any success data. We scoured more reviews looking for any mentions of success rate and couldn’t find anything meaningful.

So, what is It’s Just Lunch’s success rate?

The bottom line is that we don’t know, and anyone other than the company who tells you they know is just making things up. Clearly, It’s Just Lunch does have some success as they do have 42 success stories listed on their website. Beyond that, the only data we have says 2 million first dates, but that appears to be the same number as it was all the way back in 2007 — so it’s hard to put a lot of stock in it. That said, this number wasn’t attacked in the lawsuit (that went after a lot of different things), so it leads us to believe that it probably checked out in 2007 and we’d imagine they have more first dates now. That said, first dates may not be the best metric to gauge success with a professional matchmaker, but that’s another discussion for another day.
